FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Lawrence H. Schultz, 95, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Law-rence passed away Tuesday morning, May 9, 2017, at Temperance Lake Ridge Care Facility in Sherburn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling the arrangements for the family.

Lawrence Henry Schultz was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Antrim Township, near Truman, Minn., the son of Emil and Marie (Otto) Schultz. Lawrence attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Truman through the 8th grade, then helped on the family farm. He also helped out other area farmers and worked in Windom, Minn., for a short time.

After the Christmas of 1947, Lawrence went to Texas to build houses for Bosshart Construction. On April 25, 1949, he married Leona Eickoff and they worked on a farm by St. Clair, Minn., for six years. They moved to Fairmont in 1956 and were later divorced.

In the spring of 1964, he married Joyce (Landsteiner) Pope and they lived in Fairmont. Lawrence worked for Rosen’s Livestock as a truck driver until 1974. He then worked for Clifford Meyer until his retirement in 1986.

After his retirement, he did a lot of handyman jobs and painted rental houses, as well as snow removal in the neighborhood. Lawrence was always there to lend a helping hand or repair things. Joyce passed away on May 14, 2003.

Survivors include three sons, Michael (Martha) Schultz of Maple City, Mich., Chester Schultz of Prior Lake, Minn., Dean (Linda) Schultz of Estherville, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon (Gary) Riley of Azle, Texas, Debra (Dallyn) Kotewa of Fairmont, Minn.; three stepchildren, James (Debra) Pope of Fairmont, Minn., Dale (Liz) Pope of Pawtucket, R.I., Barbara (Ken) Detloff of Granada, Minn.; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Valeria Schultz of Belle Plaine, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Emil and Marie Schultz, and wife, Joyce Schultz, Lawrence was preceded in death by five brothers, Bernardt, Emil, Herbert, Harold and Raymond Schultz; six sisters, Leona Barge, Thuesnelda “Tootie” Williamson, Mathilda Johnson, Luella Wessel, Wilma Brinkman, and Glenda Bode.
