SPIRIT LAKE — A Celebration of Life service for Leonard E. Peterson, 92, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, formerly of Sherburn, Truman and Swea City, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Open Bible Church in Swea City. Interment, with military rites by the Swea City VFW, will be at Swea Township Cemetery.

Peterson died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Henry-Olson Funeral Home of Swea City is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard E. Peterson was born July 31, 1924, in Sherburn, Minn., the son of Frank and Mary (Pedersen) Peterson. He served in the U.S. Army-Air Force from May 1943 until March 1946.

Survivors include: his children, Nancy Massey of Tulsa, Okla., Mel Peterson of Spirit Lake, Barbara Newlin of Spirit Lake, Charlene Thompson of Blue Earth, Minn., Mary Jo Reeves of Colorado Springs, Colo., Linda Krieger of Sisseton, S.D.; 14 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
