Cannot blame Trump for getting frustrated

President Trump says he will not negotiate with Democrats on infrastructure or other legislation if they are going to continue with investigations of him. The whole thing is an unfortunate mess.

We do not know if a federal infrastructure bill is the best idea anyway. The federal government is deeply in debt and spending another $2 trillion is not guaranteed to be about real progress. It could just be more federal pork to be spread around so politicians can brag they “did something” to help their states.

But other legislation also is in jeopardy, including a new trade deal with Canada and Mexico, and a new federal budget.

Over in the U.S. House, Democrats are working diligently to prolong the pain of the pointless Mueller probe, which showed Trump and his campaign did not collude with Russia to win the 2016 election. Democrats control the House and could begin impeachment proceedings if they are so inclined. They would rather drag things out in an attempt to make Trump look bad. Democrats are split on impeachment, and Republicans are not going to help them. Democrats really need to move on, but they just cannot resist playing politics. There is an election in 2020, after all.

So Trump is frustrated with them, and walked out of a meeting with their leaders this week. Trump says if they want to spend money on infrastructure, they need to get off his back. Sounds fair to us.
