No one injured in 2-vehicle crash

BLUE EARTH — No one was injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred about 1:26 p.m. Monday in Faribault County.

According to the Sheriff’s Office:

The crash happened at the intersection of 470th Avenue and 140th Street in Barber Township.

A 2016 Dodge Ram, driven by Merlin Thomas Schuster, 31, of Blue Earth was traveling west on 140th Street. He failed to yield at the intersection and his vehicle was struck by a 2009 Chevy Tahoe, driven by Chelsie Lee Volk, 32, of Minnesota Lake.

Volk’s vehicle hit the rear passenger side of the Dodge, causing Volk’s vehicle to come to rest in the west ditch.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and were not injured.

Both vehicles sustained major damage.

Scouts hosting popcorn sale

MANKATO — Twin Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America, will host an “On-Line Direct” popcorn sale from July 1 to Aug. 15.

Visitors to the Twin Valley Council website — www.twinvalleybsa.org — will be able to purchase popcorn and support Scouting. Click on the red “Buy Popcorn” button. Sixty-five percent of purchases will go to support local Scouting.

“We had to cancel or postpone all four of our special events this spring, this summer’s camping revenue will be down significantly, and our annual giving campaign is also lagging,” said Ray Brauer, Scout executive of the Twin Valley Council. “This summer popcorn sale will help Scouting ensure financial sustainability in this time of uncertainty.”

Hagedorn bill backs pork producers

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jim Hagedorn of southern Minnesota on Wednesday introduced the “Direct Pork Assistance Package Act” — legislation to provide an additional $5 billion to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to mitigate losses incurred by livestock farmers because of the coronavirus.

Hagedorn’s bill directs support payments to pork producers who have sold into an artificially depressed market and suffered losses because of restaurant closures, processing disruptions and other factors related to COVID-19. Earlier this month, Hagedorn introduced H.R. 7030 to mitigate losses associated with the forced-destruction of market-ready hogs.

“My legislation will stabilize much of the livestock industry, help independent pork producers maintain operations, support our rural southern Minnesota economy and ensure that our American food supply remains robust,” Hagedorn said in a statement.
