In Shirley Skogerboe’s Sherburn column in Wednesday’s edition, an announcement about a farewell open house for Daryl Hoewisch listed an incorrect date for the event. The open house will be 10 a.m. Dec. 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn.

Mayo welcomes new provider

FAIRMONT — Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont recently welcomed Maria Doran-Threat, a nurse practitioner, to the Oncology Department.

Doran-Threat received her training from Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon, Wisconsin. She completed her internship at Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in Rochester. She started seeing patients in early December.

Her special interests include amyloidosis; breast cancer; community heath and cancer screening; lung cancer; and multiple myeloma.

Recording devices found in hotel

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Police are investigating after recording devices were found in guest rooms at the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Minneapolis.

It’s not immediately known if the devices recorded any guests, police spokesman John Elder told the Star Tribune.

When asked how many rooms were involved, Elder said “not many.” He also said it doesn’t appear that anyone associated with the hotel was involved.

The Hyatt Hotel released a statement to WCCO-TV saying guest safety and security is a top priority and the hotel is cooperating with authorities.

Father sentenced to 24 years

HASTINGS (AP) — A Burnsville man who killed his infant son has been sentenced to more than 24 years in prison.

Michael Herkal, 33, admitted slapping and violently shaking the 13-day-old baby after the child wouldn’t stop crying.

He pleaded guilty Wednesday in the death of Anthony Herkal and was sentenced to 290 months in prison.

Police responded to a report of an infant who wasn’t breathing at a residence in Apple Valley on Aug. 12, 2018. They found the baby without a pulse and turning purple.

The infant was hospitalized with a skull fracture and bleeding on his brain. He died two days later.
