Man killed crossing highway

LITTLE FALLS (AP) — The Minnesota State Patrol says a man walking across a highway in Morrison County has been struck and killed.

The patrol says 59-year-old Keith Larson was hit by a pickup truck on Highway 10 near Little Falls Sunday shortly before 6 p.m. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital where he later died.

Two men in the pickup were not hurt. Both were wearing seatbelts.

3 young girls burned in Rushford house fire

RUSHFORD (AP) — Three young girls remain hospitalized in critical condition following a fire at their home in Rushford last month.

The girls, their parents and a foster son were burned in the fire early on Oct. 31. KTTC-TV reports Regions Hospital in St. Paul says the father, Jared Cords, is out of the burn unit. His wife, Erin Cords, who is pregnant, and a 15-year-old foster son have been released from the hospital.

Seven-year-old Ravyn, 5-year-old Teagan and 3-year-old Peyton remain critical. A GoFundMe page for the family says the father went into the house numerous times to save his wife and children before the house collapsed.

Church votes to remove embroidery

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Members of a Minneapolis church have voted to remove an embroidery depicting the first Thanksgiving and a slave ship.

Leaders of Plymouth Congregational Church deemed the massive embroidery “disturbing and hurtful.”

A group of church members had proposed an alternative plan that would keep the embroidery on display while adding new artwork reflecting diversity.

The Star Tribune reports Sunday’s special meeting included a worship service before and after the vote, which church members chose to do by secret ballot.

Out of 561 votes cast, 372 were to keep the existing plan — which was to take the embroidery down.

Man found fatally shot in vehicle

ST. PAUL (AP) — A man fatally shot in St. Paul’s North End neighborhood is the city’s 30th homicide of the year.

Police were called to the neighborhood about 5 p.m. Sunday and found the man with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Minnesota Public Radio News reports most of the homicides in St. Paul in 2019 have involved firearms. The number of shooting deaths in the city and the frequency at which guns, have been used to kill are the highest in more than two decades.
