Teen honored posthumously
ULEN (AP) — Classmates of a teenager recently killed in a car crash in northwestern Minnesota have honored her memory in a special way.
Alivia Mortensen was posthumously crowed homecoming queen at Ulen-Hitterdahl high school this week. The 17-year-old standout athlete and honor student died in a crash in Clay County on June 2, just days after finishing her junior year.
Last spring before school was out, Mortensen was selected as a candidate for homecoming queen. Students decided there was no better person to receive the honor than Mortensen. Her family agreed. Members attended coronation and accepted the crown in her honor.
Sheriff won’t release video
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A sheriff says he will not yet release squad car video of a police shooting that killed a man who livestreamed his chase by officers through two Minneapolis suburbs.
Hennepin County Sheriff David Hutchinson said in a statement Wednesday that releasing video of the shooting or other information before investigators have interviewed witnesses “may jeopardize the thoroughness of the investigation.”
