Sherburn considers new city attorney

SHERBURN — Sherburn City Council met on Monday evening and discussion was held about hiring the City Attorney from the Birkholtz Law firm, Taliesen Burrows. The administrator will check the contract for the current City Attorney. The attorney was recommended by a nearby city. The hourly rate vs. the flat rate was also discussed. The matter was tabled until the next meeting.

The City Administrator’s report asked about the school crossing lights brought up over a year ago. Several companies and groups have offered to help pay for them. The council reported that they should be solar powered and that the matter should be investigated.

The council reviewed the personnel policy and requested that City employees read the policy before the council approves it. League of Minnesota Cities reported back to them that they are considered a small number since the fire department city employees are not under the personnel policy eligibility level.

The City Works employee reported the wastewater plant is progressing with the UV lights installed but the standby generator is not here yet. A U plow for the front of the grader was purchased from a township.

He attended a water conference and was told the chemical that is used as waterproofing may be banned. The Sherburn water is doing well when tested for several minerals.

Police Chief, Trevor Yochim, reported to the council and explained adding some ordinances on the computer so that printed out citations could be done. He also introduced the new Police Chief for Trimont, former officer, John Auringer.

The Jetter truck needs a lot of maintenance and plans to purchase a used newer truck with the other towns were discussed. There may be set aside monies available that were planned to help purchase a truck to clean storm sewers etc. The amount each town should pay

goes by the population not by how many hours it is used in the town. The council asked where it would be stored so that it would be okay during the winter.

In other news:

— The gaming permit for the Sherburn Lions was approved.

— There were complaints about snow plowing, mostly on non-hard surface streets. There were reports of praise about snow plowing and fixing Fairmont Street.

The next meeting of the Sherburn City Council is scheduled for 5 p.m. on April 3 at Sherburn City Hall.
