Special public meeting Thursday

SHERBURN – There will be a special school board and public meeting from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the cafeteria at MCW High School in Sherburn, to view the report about the facilities of the school district from the ISG Company. It will also be on the school district’s website.

Martin County West (MCW) sports calendar for the next week will be as follows: For Thursday, Dec. 8, the boys basketball team will play 7 p.m. at at Blue Earth; the boys hockey team will have a game 7:30 p.m. at New Ulm; girls hockey will have a game vs. New Ulm at 7:30 p.m. at the Martin County Arena in Fairmont; girls basketball will play Jackson 7 p.m. at Trimont. On Friday, Dec. 9, the boys basketball game vs. Cleveland will be held 7 p.m. in Sherburn. On Saturday, Dec. 10, the wrestling team will compete at an invitational beginning 9:30 a.m. in Jackson; and the boys hockey team will go to

LaCrescent at 3 p.m. On Monday, Dec. 12, the boys basketball team will play in Lake Crystal at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the girls basketball team will travel to Northrop for a 7 p.m. game; the girls gymnastics will meet 7 p.m. at Live Fit in Fairmont; the girls hockey team will go to Worthington at 7 p.m. and the boys will meet at the Fairmont Arena at 7 p.m. During the day the FFA will go to Windom for contests. There will be early dismissal for a teacher’s workshop on Dec. 14, and Christmas vacation will be from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2, 2023.

The Mavs Merch and More is a business class enterprise which sells custom designed crew-neck sweatshirts, joggers, tie dye socks, stocking hats and more. They are part of MCW school and sell from 10:30-11 a.m. on Tuesdays. They may also sell at sporting events.

This weekend, Dec. 9-11, the Sherburn Theatre will feature a re-release of ’Father Stu’ without the expletives called ’Father Stu: Reborn’ which is rated PG-13. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Condolences to the families of Barney Hitchcock, Margaret Sparks, and Kathy Forstrom who were former Sherburn residents that passed away. They will be missed.

The LWML ladies group from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have a Christmas Guest Day beginning 2 p.m. on Dec.14, with a program followed by dessert and fellowship.

Congratulations to David Janssen who was awarded the Sherburn Lions Club Melvin Jones Award. David has been a member of the Lions Club for almost 30 years and has been president of the Sherburn Lions, Zone Chairman, District Governor and Global Service

Chairman for the Southwest MN Lions Clubs.

Thank you to the South Central Electric Association Trust which gave the Sherburn Fire Department money for the thermal imaging equipment this year as part of the $9,300 given in grants. They award grants in the spring and fall of each year.

Federated Rural Electric Association (FREA) gives two scholarships of $1,000 to high school seniors and full-time college students under 25-years-old in the form of a check to the schools. They give $700 scholarships after February from the Round Up funds. For
