Truman talks ambulance funds, levy

TRUMAN– On Monday the Truman City Council took a look at the 2023 proposed budget and levy. In doing so they also considered the ambulance fund.

As it stands, the city is looking at a 13.08 percent levy increase.

Council Member Jake Ebert commented on the desire to cut about $60,000 of the budget.

“For sure. I think between now and December when we finalize it, we’ll need to go through this list and trim out and/or If we need to have work sessions between now and then, we certainly can,” said Council Member Brandon Mosloski.

Ebert said for 2022 they started with an 18 or 20 percent levy increase and got it down to a 6.5 percent increase.

The council will further discuss the budget and levy before it’s finalized in December.

The ambulance department is in need of a new cot. Josh Kitzerow of the ambulance department said they currently have a capital outlay of about $39,214.

He said they looked at several cots and decided on one that costs about $51,425 (including installation) which is about $20,000 more than a year ago.

“With the capital outlay and then the fundraiser and what we brought in, we’re about $7,743 short,” Kitzerow said.

He said that they took away $4,500 at the recent fundraiser after paying for everything. He commented on how generous the community was.

“I think the ambulance fund is pretty well funded and has done a good job of funding itself over the years,” said Mosloski.

Mosloski made a motion to approve the extra funding for the cot. The motion passed.

Moving to utility business, Utility Foreman, Brent Brown shared some information on an energy efficiency grant. He said with it they were considering changing the lighting in the community center.

“It would be the main room, the kitchen and meeting rooms off to the side. The material came back at $4,807 and we’re figuring $1,200 to $1,500 for additional materials and labor. It’s a 50/50 grant,” Brown said.

He said right now there’s $4,800 in the repair and maintenance budget and that the city’s portion would be $3,500 to redo the lights. Anything left over from the grant they’d look at office lighting.

The council approved moving forward with the lighting project.
