Brews and BBQ this weekend

FAIRMONT– Fairmont Rotary Club will hold its Rotary Brews and BBQ event from 6 p.m.- 11 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 25 at Citizen’s Park in Fairmont. The event will also celebrate 100 years of Fairmont Rotary.

Sara Pierce, an organizer of the event, shared that it was first put on by the Adventure Playground Task Force in 2018. Then in 2019, Rotary partnered with the Adventure Playground Task Force and held the event at the Martin County Fairgrounds.

Last year, like many other organizations, Rotary was not able to hold the event. This time around, the event will serve as a fundraiser for Rotary. Process will go to fund various projects.

“We have a monthly service project so it will go to that. We might do more park benches like we did at Gomsrud,” Pierce said.

When asked why it was decided to hold the event downtown this year, Pierce said it’s a more centralized location.

“Bringing an event downtown will also help with the revamping effort,” she said.

The rain location is the sheep barn at the fairgrounds, where the event’s been held in the past.

The food will be provided by Scotty Biggs BBQ. Four brews will also be available from Lost Sanity Brewing in Madelia.

“Harmony Spirits will be there. They’ll have two signature cocktails as well as tastings of their spirits,” Pierce said.

She said Gran D’s will also have popcorn for sale and Dale Engquist Band will be playing from 7- 10 p.m.

Pierce said the Rotary members are helping with the event on a voluntary basis. In the past they’ve had anywhere from 100 to 150 people attend the event.

“We’re hoping to keep this an annual thing. If a specific group needs funds, we can partner with them,” Pierce said.

Brews and BBQ serves as one of Rotary’s main fundraising events. Rotary’s other fundraiser include the poinsettia sale, which funds their mentoring program, STRIVE. They also hold a free-will donation book sale at Five Lakes Centre each December.

Pierce gave a shoutout to their sponsors, which include Fairmont Ford, Sweet Financial, Pierce Accounting, Kinum, Hawkins Chevrolet, Profinium Financial and Bolton and Menk. Culligan is donating water.

With the purchase of a ticket a meal and two free drinks are included. Presale tickets are $25 or $30 at the door. Additional drink tickets will be available for $5.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at Pierce Accounting, Profinium, HyVee, the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce and the Fairmont liquor store.
