Street work slated to end

WELCOME — Sunday is Mother’s Day, so Happy Mother’s Day to all area mothers and those who are like a mother to our children.

There will be a Red Cross blood drive from 1-5 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Please make an appointment so social distancing can be achieved. Call (800) 733-2767), go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999.

Special sanitary precautions are taken so giving blood is safe for the donor. Masks are a good idea too.

Condolences to the family of Lola Talledge who passed away this week. She will be missed.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Martin County Relay for Life has postponed its annual event scheduled for June 27.

Welcome City Council has been meeting using social distancing. Council members will get iPads and may hold meetings virtually.

City Hall is open but social distancing is mandatory to protect the clerk and residents.

Council members would like to let residents know that the parks are open but there will be no sanitizing, and social distancing is to be observed.

The last of the 2019 reconstruction is scheduled for May 18, weather permitting. Work is being done on the final lifts on the streets and patching.

The citywide cleanup day originally scheduled for this weekend has been postponed to a later date to be determined.

Martin County West staff had a special “We Miss You Drive Through” last Monday in the towns where students live. There were fire engines and school buses as well as many cars with people waving to remind students they are in the thoughts of teachers and other staff. The school year will end in quarantine, which began March 18.
