Event to honor Sherburn state title team

SHERBURN — Grilled hamburgers will be served from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn American Legion. The public is invited to stop by for a delicious meal.

A CREST “Lunch and Learn” will be held 11 a.m. today at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. The program will be about U.S. presidents.

Following the presentation, a soup and sandwich lunch will be served. Donations are welcome for the meal.

Anyone interested is invited to attend.

A 50th anniversary celebration of Sherburn’s 1970 state basketball championship will take place Thursday night at the Martin County West boys basketball game against Jackson County Central in Sherburn.

Members of the 1970 championship team will be introduced at halftime and a reception for team members and the public will be held before, during and after the game from 6-9 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

Come out for the boys game and help celebrate the 50th year of Sherburn’s win back in 1970, when there was only one state championship team in the state and a small school in southern Minnesota captured that title.

Don’t forget the book fair going on all this week at the elementary school in Sherburn. They are open until 5:30 p.m. through Friday for you to purchase books for your children, grandchildren or to donate to the school.

Regional Worship Center in Sherburn is serving breakfast from 8-10 a.m. each Monday. They serve pancakes, eggs and coffee and they welcome anyone who wants to join them.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregivers Support group meets 3 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn. They next meet this coming Monday and there is no cost to attend.

Sherburn Lions Club will host its prime rib supper March 28 at the Sherburn American Legion. Serving times will be 5-7:30 p.m. If you are interested in attending, tickets are available for $18 from any Lions Club members, Todd at Amborn Lumber or Sarah at Ringnell Insurance. Tickets also will be sold at the door for $20.

Martin County Relay for Life is busy planning its 2020 campaign/fundraiser. If you wish to be involved in this year’s relay, you can join an existing team, start your own team or you can volunteer to help out at the event.

There will be a Relay for Life planning meeting 5:30 p.m. March 2 in the east/west meeting room at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Please attend if you’re interested in starting or joining a team or volunteering.

MCW offers GED classes for anyone interested in adult basic education. Classes are free. If you have questions, please call Community Education at (507) 764-2336.

National FFA Week, which is Feb. 22-29, is a busy week for members and staff at Martin County West. They will host a pancake breakfast Feb. 27 for FFA members, their parents, school staff, and invited businesses and sponsors. Ag Olympics is also another event taking place during the week.
