Martin Co. West kids can ‘Shop with a Cop’

WELCOME — Welcome City Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.

Note this is a change of date due to the annexation hearing before the council meeting.

There is always a time for public comments before each meeting.

Thursday is Thanksgiving Day and area churches have scheduled services for the night before.

Circle of Faith congregations will meet for a 6:30 p.m. service Wednesday night at St. Peter Lutheran Church.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome will have a 6:30 p.m. Wednesday service to celebrate Thanksgiving Eve.

Area residents are invited to join these congregations.

This will be the third year the Sherburn/Welcome Police Department will offer the “Shop with a Cop” program to give area children a happier holiday season.

Police officers share Christmas shopping with children and help them wrap gifts before having a pizza supper with them at Sherburn City Hall.

Children who are in grades K-6 in the Martin County West school district and have economic or social needs are eligible for the program.

Shop with a Cop asks the community’s help in identifying the children who would benefit from this program. They also seek help with donations. Their hope is that all children nominated would be able to participate.

To nominate a child, please let them know who the child is and what their situation is. Contact officer Nicholas Smith online at nsmith@Sherburnwelcomepolice.org or Sherburn/Welcome Police Department at 21 East First St., Sherburn, MN 56171, Attn: Officer Nicholas Smith. Nominations and donations are needed before Dec. 6.

A tentative date for shopping is Dec. 20. This is a great way to help officers make a positive contribution to the community and provide an opportunity for area children to have positive experiences with law enforcement people.

n

Please have a safe and happy Thanksgiving, there is much to be thankful for.
