Rochester woman faces felony charge

FAIRMONT — A Rochester woman is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Lindsay Jo Sunken, 34, has been charged with check forgery, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On May 21, a Fairmont police officer made contact with a woman who reported there had been fraudulent activity on her checking account. She indicated a check had been written at Walmart in the amount of $267.16.

On May 22, the officer obtained a copy of the woman’s bank statement. It showed multiple checks used on the account between the end of April and May 7. All the checks had sequential check numbers, except for one drawn on the account from Walmart in the amount of $267.16.

The officer spoke with the loss prevention specialist at Walmart in Fairmont. The specialist was able to find the transaction in question, which occurred April 25. The officer obtained surveillance footage of the transaction, as well as the receipt.

The video showed a woman filling out the check, then signing on the keypad. The specialist reviewed the footage and said she believed the suspect to be Sunken. The officer reviewed the footage and observed that the suspect had a distinctive tattoo on the back of her neck. The officer reviewed recent photographs of Sunken and was able to positively identify her.

The officer spoke with the woman, who indicated Sunken had spent the night on her couch a few weeks prior to the incident.
