Annual turkey bingo to be held Saturday

SHERBURN — The weather may not be ideal for trick-or-treaters tomorrow evening, but if you’re out driving, watch for children and parents who are out on the streets on Halloween night. Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn reminds kids and parents that they are welcome to stop out for trick or treating from 5:30-8 p.m. tomorrow. They will have treats as well as hot chocolate and apple cider. They will hold a costume contest with prizes for the best two costumes, and a coloring contest with prizes. Be sure to stop out for some spooktacular fun. They would love to see you.

Sherburn Fire Department Relief Association will host their annual turkey bingo beginning 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sherburn American Legion. They will have 34 turkeys and one big tom turkey to be given away. There will also be two special games for a whole ham as well as a meat raffle and door prizes. Everyone is welcome. Don’t miss this fun night.

Regional Worship Center in Sherburn is hosting a breakfast from 7-9 a.m. Monday. This is for anyone in the community who wishes to come and enjoy pancakes, eggs and coffee. The cost is a donation.

Friendship Club at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will hold a Thanksgiving dinner 11:30 a.m. Monday in the basement of their church. Everyone is invited to come join their friends and neighbors for this potluck meal. You are asked to bring a dish to pass.

A “Lunch and Learn” event sponsored by CREST will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 6 at the Senior Citizens Center located at 21 E. First St. in Sherburn. The program will feature Paul Harris of Harris Honey who will offer a presentation on beekeeping and honey. Following the program, a lunch of beef stew, homemade biscuits with honey butter, bars and cookies will be served. Donations for the meal are welcome. Anyone in the area is invited to join the fun, learning and socializing.

City of Sherburn will be using their leaf vacuum to pick up leaves that have been raked out to the curb all this week and next week. After next week, you will have to load up your leaves and take them to the tree dump. They ask that you do not mow the leaves because grass clippings get mixed in with the leaves which can plug up the leaf vac.

St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will hold its annual fall dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 10 at their church. On the menu will be cheesy turkey, pulled pork, barbecue or brisket sandwiches, potato chips, salads, pies and other desserts.

Red Cross bloodmobile will be in Sherburn from 1-6 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Regional Worship Center. Circle the date. If you would like to set up an appointment, call Dorothy Janssen at (507) 236-5764.

Congratulations and best of luck to three Martin County West cross-country runners, Marissa Whitehead, Katie Hartke and Jake Lewis, who qualified for the Minnesota state cross country meet Saturday in Northfield.

Also, best of luck to the MCW football team who will play Springfield in the Section 3A championship game 4:30 p.m. Friday at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. MCW is offering a fan bus to the game. A minimum of 30 people are needed to sign up in order to take the bus. The cost for the bus is $5 per person, and does not include your ticket for the game. Fans in sixth grade or under need to be accompanied by an adult. If you wish to go on the fan bus this Friday, please call the school office soon.
