Ribbon-cutting event slated

SHERBURN — Sherburn American Legion will hold its monthly steak and shrimp fry from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Legion. The public is welcome.

An open house bridal shower for Nancy Faber, bride-to-be of Mike Collins of New Orleans will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Nancy is the daughter of David and Dana Faber.

The annual Trimont Fun Fest will be held this weekend. Activities begin at 4 p.m. Friday with Wild Things Zoo Attractions at Anderson Park. A food trailer will open at 5 p.m. and the Martin County Pork Producers will grill pork chops.

On Saturday, the 5K run and walk registration starts 7:30 a.m., with the race getting underway around 8 a.m.

There also will be a pancake breakfast, car and tractor show and sand volleyball tournament. Bingo begins at noon and the parade will start at 3 p.m. A pedal tractor pull will be held at 5:30 p.m., while musical entertainment will be in the park. A hypnotist will perform from 7-8 p.m.

On Sunday, a pancake breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to noon while a community church service will begin at 10 a.m.

Ruby’s Pantry will distribute food Monday at the Regional Worship Center across from Kum & Go in Sherburn.

Registration begins at 5 p.m., with food distribution from 6-7:30 p.m. All that is required is a $20 cash donation and two large boxes, totes or laundry baskets for food.

Everyone qualifies for this distribution and they will receive an abundance of grocery items. There are no financial restrictions.

Auditions for the Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre production of “Alice in Wonderland” will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Sherburn Theatre. Students ages 7-17 are needed for the production.

Rehearsals will be 1-5 p.m. July 16-18 and 3-7 p.m. July 19.

Performances will be 7 p.m. July 19 and 10 a.m. July 20.

This year’s Martin County Relay for Life committee wishes to thank the sponsors, volunteers and everyone who donated and attended the 2019 Relay for Life event in Fairmont. A total of $57,812 was raised that night and there is still another week of fundraising. This money helps so many people and their families as they fight their battle with cancer.

A “Fun With Food” event will be held 3:30 p.m. July 17 at the Sherburn Community Hall. The event is presented by Hy-Vee of Fairmont. There is no cost to attend the program and no need to register.

The program will teach about nutritious foods and making healthy snacks. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

Sherburn Civic and Commerce is planning a ribbon-cutting celebration to thank the community for its support of the various projects Sherburn has conducted over the past few years.

It will be held 6 p.m. July 23 in Pocket Park (next to the Old Alley Quilt Shop) in Sherburn. They will serve complimentary brats with all the fixings, chips, cookies and pop. This is free to the public, with past and present mayors of Sherburn cutting the ribbon.

A suggestion/comment box will be available for any requests or ideas people may want to share with Civic and Commerce members.

Everyone is welcome to come out and celebrate the completed, present and future projects for our Sherburn community.

In case of rain, the event will be held in the basement at the Sherburn Community Hall.
