‘Lunch and Learn’ to focus on flag

SHERBURN — A “Lunch and Learn” event sponsored by CREST and Temperance Lake Ridge will be held 11 a.m. today at the Senior Citizens Center in Sherburn. The program will center around United States flag history and etiquette.

After the program, a lunch of shish kabobs and summer desserts will be served. Donations are welcome to help defray costs for the lunch.

Anyone who is interested is welcome to attend.

Start your Fourth of July celebration early by enjoying a delicious grilled burger from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn American Legion. The public is invited.

Then you can extend your Fourth of July celebration by attending “Sundaes in the Park” on Sunday evening in Trimont. Ice cream sundaes will be served.

Ryan and Braelyn Faber will provide this week’s entertainment, beginning 6 p.m. at Triumph Memorial Park.

In case of rain, the event will be held at the school in Trimont.

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell will host Vacation Bible School from July 8-11. Gathering time will be 5:30-8 p.m. in the church basement, with supper provided. An open house retirement party honoring Rick and Connie Stenson will be 5-8 p.m. July 11 at the Sherburn American Legion. Rick and Connie have been teachers in our school system for many years. The Martin County West community is invited to come out to thank them and wish them well.

An open house bridal shower for Nancy Faber, bride-to-be of Mike Collins of New Orleans will be 1-3 p.m. July 14 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Nancy is the daughter of David and Dana Faber.

Auditions for this year’s Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre performance of “Alice in Wonderland” will be 1 p.m. July 15 at the Sherburn Theatre. Students, ages 7-17, are needed to perform in the play, which will be staged July 19-20.

Coach “T” (Thad Tumbleson) will once again be holding his summer football camp in Sherburn. It is for ages kindergarten through eighth grade. Camp will be July 29 through Aug. 1 on the north side of the elementary school in Sherburn.

Grades K-3 will be held 8:30-11:30 a.m. while grades 4-8 will attend from 12:30-3:30 p.m. This is a non-contact camp.

In case of rain, the camp will be held in the school gymnasium.

Those attending will learn the fundamentals of football, better techniques, and life lessons will be taught as well through football and the expectations to be good citizens.

“Camp Learn A Lot” is a weeklong kindergarten readiness camp that will be held July 15-19. The camp is for students entering kindergarten this fall.

Camps will be held 8-11 a.m. at the preschool room in Trimont, and from noon to 3 p.m. at the preschool room in Sherburn.

Camp leaders will be Heather Leiding and Carolyn Kascht.

While at camp, students will experience hands-on learning, interactive play and other age-appropriate activities. They will practice kindergarten readiness and make new friends.

If you think your child would benefit from this experience, call (507) 764-2336 to register. Class size is limited to 12 students per class so register early in order to reserve a spot. The cost is $30 and scholarships are available for families who qualify.

Tuesday morning coffee hours for the month of July are held 8:30-10 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon. Everyone is welcome.
