Truman reading program begins next week

TRUMAN — Merle Craig is celebrating his 80th birthday with a bean bag party hosted by his children and grandchildren. It will be held Saturday at the residence of Tony and Mona Weihe, 2044 230th St., Truman, but please RSVP to Mona at (507) 776-5051 by today if you’d like to play in the tournament. Sign in and fun time begins 1 p.m. with the tournament getting underway at 3:30 p.m. Partners will be drawn. Bring your own lawn chairs.

Kids in the Kitchen is calling all mini chefs from kindergarten through fourth grade for a wild time at a jungle-themed kid’s class. It will be held 1-4 p.m. and the cost of the class is $15. Abby Kipfer will be leading this three-hour class making mini monkey banana bread, wild trail mix, jungle juice fruit smoothies and more. There will be an open house bridal shower honoring Haley Amman and Levi Ekstrom from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the fireside room at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman. They are registered at Target and Pottery Barn.

Join Laura on June 12 to create a chalkboard sign using chalk couture which is the premier DIY company for high-end home design. You will choose your design and go home with a sign PLUS your reusable silk screen transfer. Participants must register before Saturday by emailing Laura at laura@brusheddesignco.com. Invoices must be paid to be considered registered for the class. If you register and are unable to attend, a kit with your supplies to create your sign with be left with the workshop organizer.

Truman Public Library summer reading program “A Universe of Stories” begins the first week of June so stop by the library to get a free book to kick off the program. Storytime is 3 p.m. every Wednesday followed by a fun free craft also held at the library.

Truman City Council meets 5:30 p.m. Monday at Truman City Hall. All meetings are open to the public.

Truman Church of Christ vacation bible school is “Farm Fresh Faith” It will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 3-7 for children, ages four through sixth grade. All children of the community are invited to attend. For more information you may call (507) 776-2671.

Wednesday is recycling day. Please place your recycling containers curbside by 7 a.m.

Daisy Johnson is instructing American sign language classes for beginners 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday June 18, 25, July 2, 9, and 16. The cost is $50 for all five sessions. A first aid/CPR class instructed by Sheila Denton begins 5:30 p.m. June 6 with registration due by Saturday. The cost is $45 per person for daycare/foster care and $65 for healthcare. Register with Courtney at (507) 327-6917 or studerc@truman.k12.mn.us.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday in June, Prairieland Solid Waste Facility will accept your household hazardous waste for free or appliances and electronics for a fee of $15 each. Large quantities of farm chemical disposal are by appointment only. To make an appointment or for questions, call (507) 776-3232.
