Memorial Day events set in Sherburn

SHERBURN — Help is needed to put up flags for Memorial Day at the city park in Sherburn. The Avenue of Flags committee will put up 280 flags beginning 8 a.m. Saturday. Help is also needed to take down the flags 6 p.m. Monday. If you have time to either put up the flags, retire the flags or both, please come down to the park at the designated times. Your help with this beautiful memorial display would be appreciated.

The Memorial Day program in Sherburn will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Three new flags will be added to the Avenue of Flags during the program. These flags will be in honor of Paul Anderson, Dwight Hoffmeyer and William Schnittger.

Friendship Club of St. John’s Lutheran Church will carpool to Algona, Iowa, for their next adventure June 3. They will meet at the church in Sherburn 9:30 a.m. that day, stop for lunch 11 a.m. at the Pizza Ranch in Algona, then tour the Prisoner of War Museum and Nativity. German prisoners made all 65 of the nativity figures by hand.

There is a $3 charge for this tour. To sign up, call the church at (507) 764-5312. Everyone in the community is welcome to join them.

Relay for Life of Martin County will host its annual survivor celebration supper from 5-7:30 p.m. June 11 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Fairmont. Registration and social time will be 5-6 p.m., with the meal beginning 6 p.m., followed by the program at 6:45 p.m. All cancer survivors are invited.

If you’re interested in attending, please RSVP before May 27 by calling or texting Tori at (507) 399-3667. They need to know the number of survivors and caregivers who will be attending.

Ruby’s Pantry has a new food distribution site. It is located at the Regional Worship Center (across from Kum & Go) in Sherburn. Food will be distributed at this site from 6-7:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month beginning June 17.

Registration begins 5 p.m. on these evenings. A $20 cash donation is required and you’re asked to bring two large boxes, totes or laundry baskets for the food. You will receive an abundance of grocery items. For more information, call (507) 764-7491.

Volunteers are needed to help with the distribution of food at Ruby’s Pantry. If you would like to become a volunteer, please fill out an application online. The link is www.rubyspantry.org/volunteer-application

There will be no school for all Martin County West students on Memorial Day. The last day of school at MCW will be May 31. Graduation will be 2 p.m. June 2 at the high school in Sherburn.

Red Cross bloodmobile will be in Sherburn from 1-7 p.m. June 10.
