Inmate charged with felony

FAIRMONT — A Fairmont man is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Barrie Allen Skweres, 54, has been charged with drug possession in the fifth degree, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On April 26, a deputy with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Martin County jail on a report of an inmate who brought contraband into the jail.

Upon arrival, the deputy learned that Skweres had been arrested pursuant to an apprehension and detention order request by his probation officer. Skweres was placed in a holding cell where he was searched and his items inventoried.

During the inventory process, a correctional officer discovered a small plastic straw in Skweres’ wallet that contained a small amount of a crystalized substance. The substance was later tested and came back as positive for the presence of meth.

A check of Skweres’ criminal record shows a conviction in 1998 for felony controlled substance crime in the fifth degree, and a conviction in 2003 for felony conspiracy to commit controlled substance crime in the second degree.
