Sign up for summer ball

SHERBURN — Summer ball registration will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the gymnasium at Martin County West Elementary School in Sherburn. Registration is for youth playing T-ball, Pony League or U18 baseball and softball.

If you’re unable to attend, please remember the deadline to register for T-ball through high school teams is March 21.

Sherburn indoor swimming pool has one more parent/tot water session 6:30 p.m. Friday. This session is for children, ages 6 months through 5 years old. Children must be accompanied in the water by an adult. The cost is $4 per child. Pre-registration is not required.

The Boy Scouts in our area will conduct their “Scouting for Food” campaign Saturday. They are asking Sherburn residents to put donated items in plastic bags and place them outside their front doors before 9 a.m. Saturday for the Scouts to pick up.

If you received a “Scouting for Food” sticker last weekend, you may attach that to your plastic bag.

Types of food needed include canned foods, dry pasta, dry cereal, paper products, baby formula, diapers and tissues.

Home-canned foods, open packages or expired products are not accepted.

All goods will be distributed by our local food shelf.

There will be a National Honor Society induction ceremony 9 a.m. March 20 at the high school gym in Sherburn. Junior and senior students will be named to the National Honor Society during that ceremony.

Make plans to attend the Martin County West drama department’s presentation of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” at the Sherburn Theatre in Sherburn. Performances will be 7 p.m. March 22-23 and 2 p.m. March 24.

Adult tickets cost $7, students $5, while preschool children get in for free.

A bake sale also will be held, and concessions will be available.

A dog obedience class will be offered through Martin County West Community Education from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays March 28, April 4, 11, 25 and May 2 at the elementary school in Sherburn. The instructor will be Gary Hamman.

Dogs must be 3 months or older.

Sherburn Lions Club will hold its annual prime rib dinner 5-8 p.m. April 6 at the Sherburn American Legion. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any Lions Club member. They also may be purchased from John Tirevold at Bank Midwest in Sherburn, Todd Amborn at Amborn Lumber in Sherburn or Jeff Hagen at the Photo Press in Fairmont.

There is men’s night beginning 7 p.m. every Wednesday evening at the high school gymnasium in Sherburn. Open gym for anyone interested will be 2-4 p.m. every Sunday afternoon.
