Post 1905 ready to begin

TRUMAN — The Truman Fire Department recently established Post 1905 for area youth ages 14-21 who are interested in learning about what is involved in being on a volunteer fire department.

This post was established through a grant from The Boys Scouts of America and Valero.

The first meeting for Post 1905 will be 7 p.m. today at the Truman Fire Hall, 101 E. Ciro St., led by advisers Matt Lange, Josh Tonkin, and Cody and Kaleana Wiens.

For more information call Matt Lange at (507) 217-3956.

A retirement open house for Monte Rohman will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Truman Community Building. Monte is retiring after serving the city of Truman for 36 years as city clerk. The public is invited to come wish him well.

n

St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will host The Eve of the Circumcision and Naming of Jesus Service at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

n

Happy 90th birthday on Monday to Duane Kahler. Cards will reach Duane at 1240 E. Business Highway 83, Lot 63, Mission, Texas 78572-9351.

Remember that recycling day is today, which is one day later due to the Christmas holiday.

Truman Sorority members are thinking ahead to next year’s Santa’s Shopping Spree. If you have new or gently-used Christmas gift bags and tissue paper, or find a really good after-Christmas sale on them, they would appreciate it if you could bring them to the Truman Public Utilities Office.

Judi will gladly accept your donations and make sure they get to the right people, who will store them for next year. Area children are able to shop for gifts for family members for 50 cents each, and it takes a lot of bags and tissue paper to wrap the gifts the children choose. This community project is always a popular event.

n

Let’s all think about how we can promote Truman during 2019 and be proud of our community. There are so many ways we can volunteer in big and small ways.

Remember, if we want Truman Days to continue, we need new leadership and new ideas. Please don’t be afraid to say “yes” if you are asked to help chair or be on a committee. If many people step up it won’t be so much work for anyone. There will be upcoming meetings announced, so please volunteer to help.

There are many other opportunities to better Truman. So don’t be afraid to share your ideas and opinions.

Happy New Year!
