MCW holds homecoming

SHERBURN — This is homecoming week at Martin County West.

Nick Beseke and Chey Owens were crowned king and queen at the coronation ceremony Monday evening. Nic Potthoff and Abby Bachenberg were named prince and princess.

Other members of the homecoming court were Madison Klima, Karlee Thiesse, Alyssa Williamson, Nic Miller, Nic Mix and Evan Sinn.

Congratulations to all the candidates.

Other activities going on this week for homecoming include dress-up days, powder puff football and volleyball, a picnic lunch, an all-school parade and pep fest on Friday afternoon, senior chili feed, football game and a high school dance.

The chili feed will be held beginning 4:30 p.m. Friday at the high school and continue on through halftime of the football game. Tickets are available from any senior class member or at the door. Price for the meal is $6 for adults, $4 for students kindergarten through sixth grade. Proceeds will be used for the senior class trip to Washington, D.C., in the spring.

2019 Relay for Life will hold its kickoff meeting 6-7 p.m. Monday in the main meeting room at the Mayo Clinic Health System hospital in Fairmont. All team captains and those who might be thinking about having a team for next year are asked to attend the meeting.

The next “Lunch and Learn” event will be 11 a.m. Oct. 3 at the Senior Citizens Center in Sherburn. Tom Kramer from Kramer Family Funeral Home will speak about “being prepared.” A lunch will be served following the presentation. There will be a free will donation to help with the meal costs.

Anyone who is interested is invited to join them for the program and meal. This event is sponsored by CREST.

If you’re interested in going on the tour of Easy Automation in Welcome with the Friendship Club on Monday, please call Dee Anderson at (507) 764-6011 or St. John’s Lutheran Church at (507) 764-5312. The group will meet for lunch 12:30 p.m. at Korte’s Bar & Grill, with the tour at Easy Automation beginning around 1:30 p.m. They need a count for lunch, so please call soon if you want to join them that day.

Registration forms for fall swimming lessons at the Sherburn indoor pool are available at Martin County West Elementary Schools. The deadline to register for fall lessons is Oct. 10.

St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn will host Tuesday “Coffee Hours” during October. Everyone is invited to stop in for coffee and goodies from 8:30-10 a.m. beginning Oct. 2.

Dates to put on your calendar:

o Red Cross bloodmobile will be in Sherburn from 1-6 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Regional Worship Center.

o Sherburn Lions Club prime rib meal will be Nov. 17 at the Sherburn American Legion.
