Jahnke benefit set for Sept. 8

CEYLON — There will be a Fred C. Poppe family reunion beginning with a noon potluck meal Sunday at Mondale Park in Ceylon. Family members coming to the reunion are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own place settings.

Coffee hours continue in September from 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome. Join your friends and neighbors for good brew and goodies.

Circle of Faith parishes will return to their fall and winter schedules with services 8:30 a.m. Sundays at St. Peter Lutheran in Ceylon. The ladies group will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter.

Beginning in October, the ladies will meet 1:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday.

Red Cross blood drive will be held in Fairmont at the Holiday Inn on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. An upcoming blood drive will be held in Ceylon from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 26.

For more information or to make an appointment, contact the American Red Cross at www.redcrossblood.org, call 800-733-2767 or text BLOODAPP to 90999.

A donation only takes 1/10th of the blood you have in your body. More than 41,000 blood donations are needed each day. Give the gift of life, give blood.

There will be a benefit pork patty feed for Rod Jahnke from 3-7 p.m. Sept. 8 at Legends 2 in Ceylon. Donations will be taken for the meal. There will also be a silent auction. For more information, to help or to donate something to the silent auction, contact Angie Leiding at (507) 841-0820 or Larry Kling at (507) 236-4172. All support would be appreciated.

Rod suffered an injury and had to have surgery to reattach his hamstring to his hip, and also had knee surgery. He did have insurance, but not disability insurance, so no income is coming in for his family. An account has been set up at Bank Midwest in Fairmont if anyone wants to donate. Rod has been a firefighter in Ceylon for 19 years.
