FFA hosting event Monday

SHERBURN — Everyone is invited to come and enjoy grilled burgers from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn American Legion.

Practices for fall sports at Martin County West began Monday.

School for students in grades 7-12 will get underway on Sept. 4.

Students in grades kindergarten through 6th grade will begin Sept. 6.

Bus routes will be included in the September MCW newsletter that will be sent out the end of August.

If you know of a new family in your neighborhood, please encourage them to contact the MCW Central Office at (507) 764-2330.

MCW school offices are now open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration will be held Aug. 20-24 at all individual school buildings. The schools will be open for registration from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 22.

There will be an FFA “Back to School Night” from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday at MCW Jr./Sr. High School in Sherburn. High school FFA members will meet in the music room, while junior high FFA members will meet in Mr. Daberkow’s room.

Any student entering grades 7-12 and who is interested in becoming an FFA member should attend this event. FFA members are asked to bring their dues, $22 for high school and $15 for junior high.

Come enjoy a meal and recreational activity together with other FFA members.

Thursday is FFA Day at the Martin County Fair.

MCW School Board will hold its regular meeting 6:30 p.m. Monday in the central office.

Yoga and Pilates-Barre classes are available each week at the MCW Elementary School.

Yoga is offered 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays, chair yoga is 9:15-10 a.m. Thursdays, while Pilates-Barre is 10:10-10:55 a.m. Thursdays. Registration is not required.

There are many volunteer opportunities available within the CREST organization. CREST has been in existence in Martin County for 20 years and its objective is always to help individuals maintain their independence and their quality of life by sending caring individuals to lend a hand when needed.

If you’re interested in becoming a CREST volunteer or if you would like to see about getting help through CREST for yourself or a family member, please call the CREST office at (507) 235-3833 and they would be glad to answer any questions you might have.

Don’t forget coffee hours from 8:30-10 a.m. every Tuesday in August at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Their theme this year is “Oldies but Goodies.” Come and enjoy coffee, treats, fellowship and their beautiful decorations. All are welcome.
