Four running for school board

FAIRMONT — A fourth person has filed to run for school board in Fairmont.

John Gibeau added his name to the list Monday. He joins incumbent Rufus Rodriguez, along with Mike Edman and Martha Myren.

Three seats on the board will be on the ballot this fall, meaning that with the addition of Gibeau, the race will be contested.

Two board members have said they will not run. They are Del Ellis and Danielle Schutz.

Those interested in running for the board may file at district administrative offices at Fairmont Elementary School through 5 p.m. today.

There have been no changes in filings for the Fairmont City Council. Two council seats and the mayor’s job are open.

Debbie Foster has filed to retain her position as mayor, while incumbent Bruce Peters filed for re-election to the Ward 1 council slot.

In Ward 3, Randy Lubenow filed his candidacy to replace Jim Zarling, who has said he does not plan to run again.

Filings continue through 5 p.m. today at City Hall.
