‘Learn A Lot’ camp slated

SHERBURN — Grilled hamburgers with all the fixings will be served 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn American Legion. All are welcome.

2018 Martin County Relay for Life will begin at 3 p.m. Saturdays and continue until midnight at the Martin County fairgrounds just west of Fairmont.

Lots of activities will be going on, including survivor registration, silent and live auction, a meal, opening ceremony, survivor ceremony and a caregiver walk.

A band will perform, there will be food and games at the campsites, hourly theme laps, walking laps, a 5K, luminaria lighting ceremony and closing ceremony.

You do not have to be part of a team to come and take part in the many activities. Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate cancer survivors and take time to remember those who have lost their fight with this terrible disease.

A fundraiser for Cindy Anderson Tusa of Sherburn will be held 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Pizza Ranch, Jackson. Cindy will receive treatment for endometrial cancer and kidney dialysis for several weeks in Sioux Falls. All tips, donations and a portion of sales Monday will help with her expenses.

Donations also may be made to the Cindy Tusa Benefit account at any Bank Midwest location.

“Camp Learn A Lot,” a week-long kindergarten readiness camp, will be offered June 25-29 at Martin County West schools.

The camp, which is for students entering kindergarten this fall, will be held 8-11 a.m. at the preschool room in Trimont, and from noon to 3 p.m. at the preschool room at Sherburn.

Camp leaders are Heather Leiding and Carolyn Kascht.

While at camp, your child will experience hands-on learning, age-appropriate play and activities, practice kindergarten readiness skills and make new friends.

You need to register soon to make sure there is room available as each class has a limit of 12 students. To get your child registered, please call (507) 764-2336. The cost is $30 for the week. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.

Park Play is being held in our MCW communities through the end of June. There are games, creative art activities and snacks. Children, ages 4 through third grade, are welcome to come. The cost is $3 per session. Park Play is held 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays in Trimont, 9-11 a.m. Wednesdays in Welcome, and 9-11 a.m. Thursdays in Sherburn.

MCW Jr./Sr. High School office in Sherburn has summer hours beginning this week. They are open from 7:30-11:30 a.m. every Wednesday. Principal Traetow will be in the office much of the time throughout the summer if you should need to contact him.

The high school office will officially re-open with normal hours Aug. 6. Any report cards that have not been picked up already have been sent to the central office at MCW Elementary School in Sherburn for distribution.
