Man facing felony charge

FAIRMONT — A Winnebago man is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Evan Lamar Cramer Jordan, 20, has been charged with drug possession in the fifth degree, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On May 14, a Martin County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of about eight gunshots in the area of the 1400 block of 230th Avenue in Martin County. The complainant explained the shots came from near a vehicle and the vehicle was now heading north on 230th Avenue.

The deputy was later able to find the vehicle and make contact with the driver, who initially denied he had stopped anywhere or shot a gun. The man eventually admitted they had been on 230th Avenue, but claimed they were just out driving round. The deputy then asked the man to get out of the car.

After speaking with the driver, the deputy spoke with Jordan, who was in the front passenger seat. The deputy stated to Jordan that if they had set off firecrackers, he did not care but just wanted to know what happened. Jordan said he had purchased a gun, stopped to shoot it and shot it into a ditch to make sure it worked.

He directed the officer to the gun, a .45-caliber pistol. The pistol was empty with no magazine. When asked if there was any more ammunition, Jordan handed the deputy two loaded magazines.

While talking with Jordan, the deputy could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and informed the driver, who admitted he had been driving around smoking a “joint.” The deputy asked if they had a pipe or marijuana in the vehicle and the driver said he did not believe there was anything left. The deputy then spoke with Jordan, who handed the deputy a glass pipe.

The deputy then searched the vehicle, locating a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, which later tested positive for marijuana. A second bag also was found, along with a metal grinder. Jordan later stated the bag and grinder were his.
