Sheriff: Medical issue leads to crash on ‘169’

BLUE EARTH — A 77-year-old Fairmont man was taken to United Hospital in Blue Earth on Tuesday following an incident and accident on Highway 169 north of Blue Earth.

According to the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office:

David Holliday suffered a medical condition that caused him to drive erratically.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call about 11:25 a.m. Tuesday about a vehicle swerving all over the road and almost causing a head-on collision.

Deputies responded, catching up to the vehicle north of 140th Street. With lights and sirens activated, they tried to stop the vehicle, but it continued to drive all over the road and into the oncoming lane. The vehicle almost hit several others head on.

The vehicle then left the highway at 160th Street, colliding with a sign in the east ditch. It came back onto the roadway and then went back down into the east ditch.

The vehicle’s driver’s side mirror struck another sign as it continued through the ditch. The vehicle then jumped a culvert, causing it to fly through the air before landing in a creek in the east ditch.

Deputies approached the vehicle and rendered aid to Holliday until EMS arrived.

Assisting at the scene were the Blue Earth Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Winnebago Fire Department and Winnebago Ambulance.
