Correction

An article about the Truman City Council appearing in Tuesday’s edition included an incorrect name of a representative of the Martin County Assessor’s Office who spoke at the meeting. The correct name is Mike Sheplee.

Speech team wins section title

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Area High School speech team recently won the Section 2A tournament in St. Peter.

Fairmont posted a team score of 130 points, winning the section championship for the second consecutive year.

Ten Cardinals will compete in the state tournament on Saturday at Apple Valley High School.

Results are as follows: section champions and state qualifiers — Eric Head in creative expression, Emma Koehler in poetry reading and Ben Hernes in prose reading; section runner-up and state qualifiers — Lexi Fischer in creative expression, Bergen Senf in discussion, Maddy Pierce in great speeches and Mckenna Mathews in informative speaking; third place and state qualifiers — Kara Fischer in dramatic interpretation, Weston Loughmiller in extemporaneous speaking and Ameya Komaragiri in original oratory.

Youth expo set for Thursday

FAIRMONT — The 12th annual Youth Activities Expo will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the main gymnasium at Fairmont Elementary School.

This free event for families with school-age children offers opportunities to register for summer activities and learn about the numerous educational, social services, arts, outdoor and recreational organizations that provide youth with positive growth opportunities.

Youth can register for T-ball, girls softball, flag football, Kiwanis baseball, gymnastics, youth technology camps, junior sports camps, summer reading, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Vacation Bible Schools and more.
