Granada man facing felony

FAIRMONT — A Granada man is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Jordan Dwayne Mortenson, 23, has been charged with making threats of violence, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On Feb. 26, Martin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in Granada on a report of a domestic assault in progress. Upon arriving, a deputy knocked on the front door and announced “Sheriff’s Office.” The deputy heard a female voice yell for him to come into the residence and to hurry up. As the deputy entered, he observed a female standing in the hallway.

The female was pointing to one of the bedrooms and said, “He is back there.” The deputy heard the sound of breaking glass coming from the room. As he entered, he could see the window was smashed and a naked male was running from the residence.

The deputy, along with another deputy, apprehended the suspect and placed handcuffs on him. At this point, the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage, and he observed that the male was bleeding from his head and feet. The deputy called for an ambulance.

While waiting for the ambulance, the male identified himself as Mortenson and mumbled and talked about random and bizarre things. When the ambulance arrived, Mortenson attempted to pull away from the crew member trying to help him. The deputy and ambulance crew member eventually got Mortenson back into the ambulance.

Due to Mortenson’s bizarre behavior, the deputy agreed to ride in the ambulance to the hospital. The ambulance crew used seat belts as well as leg restraints to try to hold Mortenson down.

At one point Mortenson yelled, “I’m going to kill you,” at a paramedic. A paramedic tried to administer medicine to Mortenson through his nose and Mortenson blew his nose hard, which caused the medicine and nasal fluids to come out on the paramedic’s arms. Mortenson continued to attempt to blow his nose onto the paramedic.

Upon arrival at the emergency room of Mayo-Fairmont, staff quickly put a spit mask on Mortenson due to his continuing to blow his nose at people. Mortenson continued to say random things such as he was going to “kill her.”

Another deputy talked to the woman, who said Mortenson had been drinking a lot the previous night and came home around 5:30 a.m. She said he began yelling at her and stalking around, and pushed her while she was in the bathroom, causing her to hit the back side of her head. She said Mortenson struck her on the right side with an open hand.

The woman also said Mortenson was being destructive and hitting his head on the walls. She said he had threatened her in the past with a knife and she could not deal with it anymore.

A check on Mortenson’s record shows he has previously been convicted of domestic assault in Martin County.
