Athlete meeting slated

SHERBURN — A Lunch and Learn presentation, “Reminiscing for Brain Health” by CREST, will be offered 11 a.m. today at Sherburn Senior Citizens Center. A lunch of scalloped potatoes and ham, veggies and dip and peach crisp will be served following the program. There is no charge for this event. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

It’s “Hamburger Night” tonight at the Sherburn American Legion. Grilled burgers will be served from 6-8 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Martin County West Breakfast Club will hold a BBQ Bash from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Triumph Hall in Trimont. They will serve barbecue pulled pork sandwiches, beans, salad, chips and a beverage. The charge is a donation, with proceeds to the MCW Breakfast Club.

There will be a silent auction from 5-7 p.m. and a live auction at 7 p.m.

The bash is sponsored by Youth for Christ. The public is invited.

The mandatory Minnesota State High School meeting for MCW student athletes will be 7 p.m. Monday. The meeting is for student athletes in grades 7-12 and their parents/guardians.

Individual fall sports team meetings will be held that night also. At least one parent/guardian must accompany the student.

Forms need to be signed and athletic fees paid. Every MCW student athlete must have a sports physical within the last three years on file at the school office.

All fall sports practices will begin Aug. 14.

A MCW FFA Back to School Night will be 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the high school in Sherburn. The event is for any student entering grades 7-12 who is interested in becoming an FFA member.

A mini gymnastics camp will be 8:30-11:30 a.m. Aug. 7-10 in the gym at MCW Welcome school. The cost is $65. To register, call MCW Community Education and Recreation at (507) 764-2336.

There will be dance classes Thursdays nights during the 2017-18 school year at the Sherburn Community Hall. The classes are for boys and girls, preschool age through 12th grade. There will be two different classes for different grade levels.

Cost will depend on grade level and will be $20 to $35 per month/per child.

Jill Winter will be the coach for these classes and she asks that you call her at (507) 841-0705 to register your child.

She will continue to have a daddy/daughter dance at the end of the night on Thursdays. Each daddy/daughter class will be about 30 minutes long and will be free.

The will be two more Family Friday open swim nights at the Sherburn indoor pool. Your entire immediate family can swim for just $5 on Aug. 4 or Aug. 11.

There will be no swimming Aug. 14-15 at the Sherburn indoor pool. The pool will be closed these days for maintenance. On Aug. 15, the pool will be closed during the day, but will open that night for any evening activities.

Robert Van Zandt will provide the entertainment for Sundaes in the Park beginning 6 p.m. Sunday at Triumph Memorial Park in Trimont. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the entertainment and ice cream sundaes.
