Red Rock to host Memorial Day picnic

The Memorial Day community picnic will be held, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Red Rock Center for the Arts, 222 E. Blue Earth Ave., Fairmont. There will be a pulled pork lunch, live music, Portraits of a Veteran photo booth, petting farm, lawn games and barrel rides. There is a charge. The public is invited.

Essence Leach, 8, of Fairmont is undergoing treatment in Minneapolis. Mail will reach her at Patient Care Unit 4, South Building, 2450 Riverside Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55454. She is expected to be hospitalized until the end of June.

Social media breakfast set for Tuesday

Fairmont Area Social Media breakfast will be 9-10 a.m. Tuesday in room 012 (downstairs) at Southern Minnesota Educational Campus, 115 S. Park St., Fairmont. The guest speaker will be Sara Broers, Social Connections, LLC of Mason City, Iowa, who will talk about budding concepts for social and new ways to stimulate growth in social media marketing. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Historical Society to offer presentation

A DVD presentation featuring the military experiences of Billy Gunther will be shown 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Pioneer Museum, Fairmont. There is no charge. The public is invited to attend.

Woodcarvers schedule Tuesday meeting

CER Woodcarving group will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday in the art room at Fairmont Elementary School, 714 Victoria St., Fairmont. Park on the south side of the building and use the CER office door. Plans for the summer will be discussed. Anyone interested in woodcarving is welcome to attend. No charge.

CER announces upcoming activity

Fairmont Community Education and Recreation will hold a community activity next week. There will be a summer gardening class for children entering grades 3-5 on Wednesdays, May 29 to Aug. 7 (no class July 3 and July 10) in the ag room (S120) at Fairmont High School. (Enter though door 24). The instructor will be high school ag advisor Amber Siebert and FFA students. Dates and times are as follows: from 3:30-4 p.m. May 29 and June 5, and from 9-11 a.m. June 12 to Aug. 7. The class if for those interested in growing their own fresh vegetables or curious about agriculture and natural resources. Students will plant a small garden that they will take care of throughout the summer. There is a maximum of 18 students. Bring a pair of gardening gloves. The fee is $46.
