Bike rodeo rescheduled for next week

Because of inclement weather, the children’s bike rodeo that was scheduled for Wednesday was postponed until May 15. The event will be held 3:30-4:30 p.m. on the west side of Fairmont Elementary School. This free event will include ABC bike checks along with a bike handling and safety course. Hot dogs donated by Hy-Vee will be served. The event is sponsored by Kiwanis Early Risers, Safe Routes to School, ISD 2752 Community Education and Recreation, The Bike Shoppe and Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont. Prairie Star Quilters to meet Monday

Prairie Star Quilt Guild will meet Monday at Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church, 901 Woodland Ave., in Fairmont. The guild board will meet 12:30 p.m., with the regular membership meeting beginning 1:30 p.m. There will be a program by Diane Wedel, who will talk about the use of a “Quilters Fabric Calculator” and sharing information on the EQ6. 55 Alive driving course offered

Mark Fujan of State Farm Insurance will offer a free 55 Alive/Defensive Driving Course on Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Fairmont. Tax and legal tips will begin at 4 p.m., with the class starting at 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration is requested. There is limited seating, so those interested are asked to call as soon as possible to register. Drivers 55 and older can save money on their auto insurance by attending the course. Julia Boeve of St. James was recognized as an outstanding business major and earned the Kevin Martineau Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement (Business) during an honors convocation ceremony held April 24 at St. Mary’s University in Winona.
