Squirt ‘B’ zips Mankato, 13-0
FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ hockey team shut out Mankato, 13-0, during ice action Tuesday at Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato.
Klay Beemer erupted for a game-best five goals to complement two assists for Fairmont, while teammate Gavin Kester distributed a game-high four assists to go with one goal.
Preston Cepress collected two goals and one assist, Lucas Roiger netted a pair of goals, Logan Madsen chipped in one goal and one helper, while Brandon Hector and Noah Meixell added one goal each in the victory.
Goaltender Tanner Pankow recorded six saves to net the win for Fairmont, which shot at Mankato’s cage 56 times.
Fairmont (7-0) travels to Sleepy Eye on Saturday, Dec. 8, for a 12:45 p.m. game against New Ulm/ Sleepy Eye.
PeeWee ‘A’ ices Worthington
FAIRMONT — The Fairmont PeeWee ‘A’ hockey team zipped Worthington, 10-0, during ice action Tuesday night at Martin County Arena.
Brock Lutterman unleashed three goals and a game-best four assists to power the Fairmont offense, while teammate Hank Artz delivered a hat trick and one helper.
Matthew Cone tallied one goal and one assist, while Luke Kester, Kegan Roloff and Jace Teveldal netted one goal apiece. Tyson Pankow doled out two assists, while Connor Gronewald added one helper.
Goalie Ethan Geerdes recorded 15 saves to earn the shutout for Fairmont.
Fairmont (6-2) competes in the La Crosse tournament at Green Island Ice Arena on Dec. 7-9 in La Crosse, Wis.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers have fired coach Mike McCarthy and made offensive coordinator Joe Philbin the interim head coach.
Team president Mark Murphy announced the move after a 20-17 loss on Sunday to Arizona, dropping Green Bay to 4-7-1.
Murphy, in a statement, said the 2018 season “has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers. As a result, I made the difficult decision to relieve Mike McCarthy of his role as head coach, effective immediately.”
