Cardinals hockey on road tonight

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Area Cardinals girls hockey team travels to All Seasons Arena in Mankato tonight to face the Mankato East Cougars in a 5:30 p.m. nonconference game in Mankato.

FHS, BEA spikers tabbed all-BSC

FAIRMONT — Fairmont senior setter/hitter Taylor Crissinger and Blue Earth Area senior spiker Hannah Johnson were chosen to the Big South Conference’s East Division first-team volleyball squad.

Fairmont junior hitter Jen Moeller and Blue Earth Area senior hitter Alyssa Ripley merited honorable mention all-conference accolades.

Thompson, Moeller selected MVRs

FAIRMONT — Freshman Laura Thompson and senior Andrew Moeller were selected as the Fairmont Cardinals cross country teams’ most valuable runners at Monday’s awards program in Fairmont.

Connor Artner and Hannah Neusch were chosen as the Cardinals’ hardest workers, while William Saari and Becca Lunn pocketed the team’s most improved awards.

Emma Gudahl and Tony Ortega were tabbed as Fairmont’s rookies of the year, while Eleanor Hamlet and Cesar Flores were named outstanding junior varsity runners.

Thompson, Saari and senior Sarah Krumholz qualified for the Class A individual state cross country meet, with Krumholz also earning academic all-state honors.

Thompson and Krumholz also earned all-Big South Conference honors, while Moeller was all-conference honorable mention. Darrian Kueker received Fairmont’s 6-year healthy and dependable award.

Fairmont’s girls cross country team won 81 percent of its competitions this fall, while the Cardinal boys team ended at 71 percent.

12U girls hockey nets weekend split

FAIRMONT — The Beemer Companies 12U girls hockey team of Fairmont garnered a split decision during weekend ice action.

Karissa Newville scored two goals and Isabella Larson distributed two assists to help Fairmont double up Windom, 4-2, during Saturday’s game at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Jayda Healey contributed one goal and one assist to Beemer Companies’ winning ways, Abigail Sundeen supplied one goal, while Shaye Dietz chipped in an assist.

Goalie Ilana Moeller produced 11 saves to pocket the win for Fairmont, which tallied 22 shots on goal.

New Ulm/Sleepy Eye shut out Fairmont, 9-0, during Sunday’s action in Sleepy Eye.

Moeller turned away 28 shots for Fairmont, which made 12 shots on goal.

The Beemer Companies U12 team (1-1) opens pool-play action in the three-day Marshall tournament against New Prague at 8:15 p.m. Friday night at Reinhart Rink in Marshall.

Fairmont then plays Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Lockwood Rink before squaring off against Luverne at 6 p.m. Saturday night at Reinhart Rink.

Sunday’s final tournament round will be determined by the previous three pool-play games’ results.
