10U girls hockey nets two victories

FAIRMONT — Fairmont’s 10U girls hockey team opened the season with back-to-back victories during weekend ice action on the road.

Brooklyn Murphy erupted for a game-best six goals to complement one assist to power Fairmont to a 13-0 shutout over Austin on Saturday in Austin.

Madison Sokoloski produced two goals and two assists for Fairmont, Frankie Martin and Bella Newville supplied two goals apiece, while Lexi Sundeen chipped in one goal and one assist. Carly Gustafson and Ava Clow added one assist each.

Goalie Jadyn Musser made two saves for the shutout for Fairmont, which took 32 shots on goal.

Murphy tallied two goals, Sokoloski delivered one score and Musser made five saves to pace Fairmont’s 3-1 win over New Ulm/Sleepy Eye on Sunday in Sleepy Eye.

Fairmont (2-0) plays River Lakes at 7:45 p.m. Friday at Lockwood Rink in Marshall.

Squirt ‘B’ hockey ices Windom, 12-1

FAIRMONT — Gavin Kester and Klay Beemer combined for eight goals to help power the Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ hockey team to a 12-1 rout over Windom Area on Saturday at Martin County Arena.

Kester and Beemer each collected four goals, while Macklain Anderson and Preston Cepress produced two goals and one assist apiece.

Logan Madsen distributed two assists to Fairmont’s winning ways, while Jase Meade and Lucas Roiger dished out one assist each.

Goalie Tanner Pankow made eight saves to net the win for Fairmont, which had 33 shots on goal.

Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ (2-0) travels to Windom on Saturday for a noon game.

PeeWees ‘A’ capture 2nd at event

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont PeeWee ‘A’ hockey team compiled a 3-1 record to capture second place at the Jesse James Showdown Tournament in Northfield during weekend ice action.

Fairmont doubled the score on Ames, Iowa, 6-3, during first-round tournament action on Saturday.

Hank Artz produced a hat trick to top Fairmont’s high-scoring ways, while Luke Kester and Connor Gronewald each delivered one goal and one assist.

Jace Teveldal tallied one goal, while Brock Lutterman doled out one assist in the win.

Artz scored his second goal of the game with eight seconds remaining in regulation to power Fairmont to a 5-4 triumph over Elk River during the second round.

Lutterman netted two goals and one assist for Fairmont in second-round play, Kester scored a goal, Artz doled out two assists, while Eric Determan added a helper. Goalie Ethan Geerdes turned away 16 shots to claim the win for Fairmont.

Lutterman generated a hat trick and passed out an assist to help Fairmont slip by Waseca, 5-4.

Beau Becker chipped in one goal and one assist for Fairmont, while Tyler Pankow added a goal. Pankow doled out a pair of assists, while Artz and Gronewald added assists. Fairmont goaltender Ethan Geerdes tallied 29 saves to pocket the win.

Northfield shut out Fairmont in the tournament championship game, 7-0. Geerdes recorded 20 saves in the loss.

Fairmont PeeWee ‘A’ plays a split doubleheader on Sunday, traveling to Sleepy Eye for a 12:45 p.m. game against New Ulm/Sleepy Eye before hitting the road to Windom that day for a 5 p.m. clash with the Eagles.
