Lenort nets GW goal to kick Cardinals past Eagles, 1-0

NEW ULM — Four wins during the last five games.

Fairmont Area freshman striker Sami Lenort produced the Big South Conference soccer clash’s only goal to propel the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the New Ulm Eagles on Monday night in New Ulm.

Cardinals junior defender Hailie Handevidt launched a free kick that Lenort cashed into a goal with 23:33 remaining in the second half.

Freshman keeper Cadee Becker made four saves to net her fourth shutout of the current campaign.

The Cardinals’ offense tallied 13 shots on goal.

Fairmont Area (7-1-1) plays host to Mankato Loyola at 7 p.m. tonight at Kot Soccer Complex.

Allison Jensen recorded a pair of goals to help power Fairmont Area to a 3-0 triumph over the New Ulm Eagles during C-squad action Monday night in New Ulm.

Jensen initiated the Cardinals’ point production by converting an assist from Emma Scheppmann into a 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard.

Scheppmann then shifted gears and transitioned into a scorer with a goal off an Alexis Rojo assist for Fairmont Area.

Jensen then connected for her second goal of the contest by cashing in an assist from Anna Utermarck to cap the Cardinals’ scoring.

Abby Cihoski and Madi Stromberg each recorded four saves while sharing goaltending duties for the Cardinals.
