Fairmont VFW baseball game rescheduled
FAIRMONT — The Fairmont VFW Post 1222 baseball team’s second-round Southwest Sub-District game against Farmington has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. today at Franklin Rogers Park in Mankato.
The game, originally slated for Thursday at Wolverton Field in Mankato, was postponed due to rain.
Truman to face Windom in sub-state
TRUMAN — The Truman American Legion Post 115 baseball lineup opens Division II, Southwest Sub-State Tournament action against Windom at 5 p.m. Monday in St. James.
The winner between Truman and Windom will face the winner between Springfield and St. James at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. James. The losers of the above games will play in the elimination bracket at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. James.
FHS Football Camp starts Monday
FAIRMONT — The 2018 Fairmont Cardinal football camps will kick off on Monday and run through Thursday at Mahoney Field in Fairmont.
The camp for grades 4-9 will run from 5-6:30 p.m. on all four days. Players should contact the Fairmont CER office for questions regarding registration.
The camp for grades 10-12 runs from 8-10 a.m. daily. There is no registration or cost for this camp.
40th Fairmont Summer Run on July 28
FAIRMONT — The 40th annual Fairmont Summer Run will hit Bob Bonk Track in Fairmont at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, on the high school campus.
The 5-mile run kicks off the schedule of events at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 2-mile run/walk at 9:30 a.m. The quarter-mile run — for ages 9 and under — takes place at 10 a.m., followed by the half-mile run — for ages 13 & under — at 10:05 a.m. A brief awards program will cap the event at 10:15 a.m.
Pre-registration before July 24 is encouraged. Runners can register at the Fairmont Community Education & Recreation website or by completing a race brochure available at the CER office, which is located at 714 Victoria St. in Fairmont.
Race-day registration at the high school will begin at 7:30 a.m. and close 10 minutes prior to each race.
Northrop 13U baseball wins state title
NORTHROP — The Northrop 13U Giants baseball team compiled a 6-0 record to capture the Gopher State Tournament of Champions state championship July 15 in Mankato.
Northrop defeated Eden Prairie Black 3-2, the Roseville Raiders 12-9 and the Wayzata Gold 15-7 in pool-play action.
The Giants then edged Cambridge-Isanti 5-3 in the quarterfinals before taming the Blaine Bengals by a 14-3 rout in the semifinals.
Northrop then built an early 7-1 lead over the Hopkins Royals in the state tournament championship game before holding on for the 8-6 triumph.
The Giants (30-7) travel to Marshall to vie for the Minnesota Sports Federation’s 13AA state championship on July 27-29.
