Shoen’s walk-off grand slam lifts Jaguars by A’s

TRUMAN — Derek Shoen cranked a walk-off grand slam home run with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars to a 9-5 non-league baseball triumph over the Lyle/Austin Pacelli Athletics on Monday in Truman.

With the game tied at 5-all, Micah Hudson lined a leadoff single for the Jaguars to trigger the late-inning offensive outburst. Pinch runner Quintin Greier wheeled to third base when James Wolter’s sacrifice was mishandled before Mitchell Prafke received an intentional walk to load the bases.

A’s reliever Cole Walter notched an out before Shoen stepped to the batter’s box and sent the next delivery over the outfield fence for the game-winning grand slam.

Shoen finished with two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Owen Wolter supplied two hits and two RBIs for the Jaguars.

Zach Wolter doubled, scored twice and collected one RBI for the Jaguars, Zach Jahnz produced a pair of hits and one RBI, Cayden Fischer and Prafke each singled and scored once, while Clay Gieseke added a run scored.

Fischer allowed one unearned run on three hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief to net the pitching victory. Fischer struck out four and issued one walk.

Paxton Gravlin gave up four earned runs on eight hits, struck out three, walked four and hit three opposing batters in 4 1/3 innings pitched to receive no decision for the Jaguars.

Cory Weber collected two RBIs on two hits for the A’s, while Taylor Arett produced two hits, one RBI and scored twice.

Jed Nelson and Bryce Strouf each generated two of Lyle/Pacelli’s nine hits, while Tanner Murphy added an RBI single.

The Jaguars (7-2) travel to Lake Crystal today for a 4:30 p.m. conference game.

St. Clair 7, Martin County West 3 — David Loeffler went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to pace the Cyclones’ four-run Valley Conference victory over the Mavericks on Monday in St. Clair.

Kylan Geiger allowed three runs — one earned — on four hits, struck out five and walked six in 5 1/3 innings pitched to net the win for St. Clair.

Dylan Schons struck out three, walked one and allowed only one hit in 1 2/3 shutout innings of relief to net the save.

Karson Janssen went 2-for-4 to top the Mavericks’ offense, while Wyatt Geistfeld tallied one hit, one RBI and scored once.

MCW starting pitcher Zac Spear allowed five runs — just one earned — on five hits, fanned one and walked one in three innings of work to absorb the tough loss.

Martin County West (4-4, 3-2 Valley) plays host to Mankato Loyola at 4:30 p.m. today at Fox Lake Sports Complex in Welcome.
