Jaguars coast by Blackhawks in Showcase

TRUMAN — Senior power forward Derek Shoen erupted for a game-high double-double performance to power the Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain Jaguars to a 66-44 victory over the Madelia Blackhawks during Valley Conference Showcase basketball action Monday night in Truman.

Shoen produced 24 points and 12 rebounds to complement distributing six assists for the Jaguars, while teammate James Schrunk contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists to the winning effort.

Mason Maloney delivered 13 points, while Cayden Fischer tallied 12 points for the Jaguars, who led 26-16 at halftime.

Ja’Sean Glover netted 17 points — all during the second half — to top Madelia’s performance.

The Jaguars (9-13) play the Loyola Crusaders at 7:15 p.m. Thursday night in Mankato in another Showcase contest.

United South Central 62, Blue Earth Area 40 — Colby Klocek and Jacob Stevermer each scored 12 points to propel the Rebels to a 22-point non-league win over the Bucs on Monday night in Blue Earth.

Sam Zebro and AJ Kloos contributed nine points apiece to United South Central’s winning effort.

The Rebels held a 25-19 advantage at halftime.

Austin Thielfoldt neared double-double territory by scoring a game-best 15 points to complement a game-high nine steals to lead the Bucs.

Jacob Vaske and Cameron Anderson each netted eight points for BEA, while Caelan Sanders chipped in five points.

Blue Earth Area (6-13) travels to Waterville tonight to face Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in another nonconference hardwood court battle.

Cleveland 86, Martin County West 58 — The Clippers sailed to a 28-point victory over the Mavericks during Valley Conference Showcase action Monday night in Cleveland.

No individual or team statistics were provided by either school.

Martin County West (8-13) plays host to St. Clair on Thursday night in Trimont in another Showcase game, while Cleveland (17-4) travels to Nicollet.
