Cardinals hammer Saints in BSC hoops clash

ST. JAMES — Fairmont post player Derek Missling and guard Sam Schwieger each produced 12 points to pace a balanced Cardinals’ scoring attack during Tuesday night’s Big South Conference basketball clash against the hometown Saints in St. James.

Missling and Schwieger each delivered 12 points, with Missling pulling down four rebounds and Schwieger doling out three assists to guide Fairmont to a 71-49 triumph over St. James Area.

Dustin Schultz produced 11 points for the visiting Cardinals, Nate Kallenbach supplied 10 points and three assists, while Wyatt Quiring netted nine points and grabbed four boards.

Brady Allen distributed a game-best seven assists, scored seven points and garnered five rebounds in Fairmont’s win, while Garrett Myren chipped in seven points.

The Cardinals sank 27 of 55 shots from 2-point range for 49 percent, 5 of 19 behind the 3-point arc and 12 of 18 at the free throw line.

Kobe Mohwinkel tallied a game-high 13 points to top St. James Area, while Parker Jones contributed 12 points.

The Saints made 18 of 45 shots from 2-point distance, 5 of 9 behind the bonus arc and 8 of 15 at the charity stripe.

Fairmont (14-4) travels to Jackson County Central on Friday night for another Big South Conference clash.

Jack Hested netted 15 points to engineer Fairmont’s 43-32 victory over St. James Area during B-squad action Tuesday night in St. James.

Wyatt Frank scored 11 points for the Cardinals, while Dan Betts chipped in six points.

Jake Melsha produced 20 points to power Fairmont to a 44-25 win over St. James Area during C-squad play on Tuesday night in St. James.

Jackson Francis contributed six points to the Cardinals’ winning ways.

Tanner Rosch tallied 18 points to steer Fairmont to a 38-18 triumph over Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial during Monday night’s C-squad game in Fairmont.

Jake Melsha generated 11 points for the Cardinals.

Truman/Martin Luther/GHEC 65, Martin County West 58 — Owen Wolter and Isaac Johnson connected for timely second-half 3-pointers to help the Jaguars fend off the Mavericks’ late comeback by seven points during Valley Conference action Tuesday night in Truman.

Mason Maloney generated 14 points and grabbed six rebounds to pace the Jaguars’ winning effort, while Owen Wolter finished with 11 points to complement four assists.

Derek Shoen collected nine points, doled out eight assists and garnered six boards for the Jaguars, James Schrunk and Johnson each netted nine points, while Zach Wolter chipped in seven points and four assists.

The Jaguars made 23 of 43 shots from 2-point range, 9 of 21 behind the 3-point arc and just 6 of 9 at the free throw line.

Cole Owens produced a game-leading 17 points to top the Mavericks’ performance, while teammate Wyatt Geistfeld delivered 15 points.

The Jaguars (7-11) travel to New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday night, while Martin County West (8-9) hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Friday night in Trimont.

Windom Area 68, Blue Earth Area 40 — Kaden Elder poured in a game-best 20 points to power the Eagles to a 28-point Big South Conference triumph over the Bucs on Tuesday night in Blue Earth.

Luke Gilbertson notched 13 points for Windom Area, which held a 41-21 halftime advantage.

Caelan Sanders scored 14 points to top Blue Earth Area, Cameron Anderson supplied eight points, while Jacob Vaske tallied six points.

Blue Earth Area (6-10) travels to St. Peter on Friday night.
