MCA gymnasts place 6th at Sweetheart Invite
JACKSON — All-around champion Lindsay Bangs captured three events and runner-up honors on a fourth piece to power Class 2A, No. 6-ranked Owatonna to the Sweetheart Invitational’s team crown on Saturday.
Bangs generated 38.075 points to pace the Huskies’ top-four sweep in the all-around and a winning team total of 148.35 — 9.175 points better than Class 1A, No. 6-ranked Worthington’s runner-up score.
Bangs struck gold on the unevens (9.6), balance beam (9.5) and floor (9.6) to complement second place (9.375) to teammate Sydney Kretlow on the vault (9.45).
Brooklyn Schuett produced a fifth-place all-around total of 35.65 and Abby Schneekloth contributed an eighth-place overall mark of 35.225 to pace host Jackson County Central’s third-place team total of 138.85.
Sabrina Segar pocketed 10th place in the all-around with a 34.875 to guide the Martin County Area Magic to a sixth-place team showing of 131.6.
Segar earned a tie for third place on the floor with a score of 9.4 to complement her team-best totals of 8.7 on the vault, 8.025 on the unevens and 8.75 on the beam.
Brielle Meade produced a 9.0 on the floor for MCA, while Gwen Kallemeyn, Anna Bachenberg and Anna Utermarck each tallied 8.55s on the event.
Utermarck netted an 8.2 to finish behind Segar on the Magic’s vault charts, Kallemeyn netted an 8.125, Emma Schultze chipped in an 8.05, while Hailee Schuett added a 7.925.
Schuett produced a 7.55 for MCA on the unevens, followed by Utermarck (6.8), Emma Schultze (6.65) and Bachenberg (6.475).
Bachenberg finished one-tenth of a point behind Segar on the beam with an 8.65, Meade supplied an 8.55, Ellie Schultze scored an 8.05, while Ellie Hernes added a 7.225.
Becca Olsen earned runner-up all-around honors for Owatonna with a 36.975, while teammates Ali An (36.55) and Kretlow (36.05) placed third and fourth, respectively.
New Prague (138.025) and Edina (135.425) claimed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the team standings, while Redwood Valley (126.6) and Windom Area (119.225) rounded out the field in seventh and eighth, respectively.
