Fairmont Area senior forward Thomas Havnen distributed the assist for Sam Mensing’s goal during the Cardinal boys hockey team’s 5-3 Big South Conference victory over the Worthington Trojans on Tuesday night in Worthington.
8th-grade nets twinbill sweep
FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinal eighth-grade girls basketball lineup swept both ends of a split doubleheader on Tuesday.
Fairmont opened with a 44-8 victory over St. James before posting a 49-8 triumph over St. Paul’s Lutheran in Game 2.
Brittney Mosloski scored nine points, Carissa Saxton netted seven points and Emily Frank tallied seven points and four steals to top the Cardinals’ win over St. James.
Jaya Johnson and Sami Lenort distributed three assists apiece for Fairmont in Game 1.
Johnson then tossed in eight points, while Cadee Becker and Rayah Quiring supplied six points each to help pace the Cardinals’ win over St. Paul’s.
Abby Sunken contributed three rebounds to Fairmont’s effort, while Claire Nemmers blocked three shots.
Fairmont 12U nets 4th place
AUSTIN — The Cavers Realty of Fairmont 12U girls hockey team placed fourth in the Austin Tournament this weekend.
Fairmont opened up the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Omaha on Friday. Abi Sundeen scored the team’s lone goal.
Sundeen scored another goal on Saturday as Fairmont beat Worthington, 2-1. Hannah Goerndt also netted a score, while Keara Flanagan and Chantel Moeller doled out an assist each.
Sundeen continued her scoring ways in a 1-1 tie with Austin later in the day.
Goerndt and Karissa Newville had the double assist.
St. Peter/LeSueur beat Fairmont 4-2 on Sunday. Newville and Moeller scored for Fairmont. Goerndt andJayda Healey assisted on Newville’s score, while Goerndt and Shaye Dietz supplied Moeller with the double assist.
Hadley Artz totaled 54 saves in goal, and Fairmont (12-7-1) recorded 47 shots on goal on the weekend.
