Rorman guides BEA cagers to 3rd at Maple River Invite
MAPLETON – Junior point forward Caitlin Rorman collected a career-best 35 points to engineer the Blue Earth Area Bucs girls basketball team’s 58-53 victory over the Maple River Eagles during the third-place game of the Maple River Invitational on Saturday in Mapleton.
Rorman, who also neared double-double territory by grabbing a team-leading nine rebounds, topped her previous single-game mark of 34 points. Ironically, Rorman produced her prior-best scoring total during a 61-55 Section 2AA, South Sub-Section semifinal triumph over Maple River on March 3 at Mankato East High School’s gymnasium.
Junior forward Hannah Johnson supplied eight points, seven rebounds and four assists to Blue Earth Area’s winning ways during Saturday’s contest, while senior teammate Lindsey Norman chipped in seven points, four boards and four assists.
The Bucs outscored the host Eagles by a 28-25 second-half margin after clinging to a 30-28 advantage by intermission.
Winona Cotter posted a 59-45 opening-round tournament victory over Blue Earth Area on Friday night.
Rorman delivered 21 points to complement four steals and three assists for the Bucs, while Hannah Johnson generated a double-double performance of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior forward Sofie Blair pulled down seven rebounds for Blue Earth Area, while Lindsey Norman contributed five boards and three assists.
Cotter held a 29-20 halftime lead over the Bucs.
Blue Earth Area (4-3) plays host to Waseca at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night in a Big South Conference game.
