Blue Earth Area grapplers pin 57-18 BSC loss on New Ulm

NEW ULM — The Blue Earth Area Bucs captured the first six matches of their Big South wrestling dual meet to garner a 57-18 victory over the New Ulm Area Eagles on Thursday night in New Ulm.

Bucs’ 106-pounder Caleb Beeler started the team with a 6-3 win against Carter Brandes before Blue Earth Area teammate Davis Sunken beat Jackson Bode, 6-2, at 113.

Cooper Ochsendorf beat Eagles’ 120-pounder Nick Syverson, 4-2, Blue Earth Area’s Jack Frundt (126) pinned Jacob Bertrang in 3:29, Koby Nagel flattened John Mehlhop in 1:19 at 126 and 138-pounder Joe Schavey pinned Cole Ranweiler in 5:51.

Sean Howk, who’s ranked 10th at 138 in Class AA, and No. 3-ranked 145-pounder Hunter Ranweiler earned wins for the Eagles, with Howk receiving a forfeit at 145 and Ranweiler pinning Bucs’ 152-pounder Jaxen Klinkner in 3:45. Lane Miller then pinned Akeira Morrow in 4:29 at 170.

Bucs’ No. 6-ranked Class A 170-pounder Zac Buseman wrestled at 160 and beat Tanner Stark, who is ranked fourth at 152, via an injury default.

Dominic Whitlow (182), Jordan Huse (195) and Isaac Martinez (220) all won by forfeit for BEA before No. 10-ranked heavyweight Trevor Oppedal used 1:52 to pin Colby Wenninger.

Blue Earth Area competes at the River Riot at 4 p.m. today in Redwood Falls.
