Fairmont sweeps basketball twinbill from Blue Earth Area
BLUE EARTH — Junior guard Lexi Lunn connected on 5 of 6 free throws during the final three minutes of regulation to help the Fairmont Cardinals fend off the Blue Earth Area Bucs, 45-43, during Big South Conference basketball action Thursday night in Blue Earth.
Blue Earth Area held a narrow 22-20 advantage at halftime before Fairmont rallied to outscore the home team by a 25-21 margin in the final 18 minutes.
Lunn finished with 10 points and distributed three assists for the Cardinals, while senior post player Claire Cutler topped Fairmont’s balanced scoring effort with 13 points to go with five rebounds.
Eighth-grade guard Maggy Totzke delivered nine points for Fairmont, while senior forward Brenna Cutler contributed eight points and a team-best seven boards to the winning performance.
The Cardinals made 15 of 36 field goals, including 3 of 8 from behind the 3-point arc, and sank 12 of 19 free throws on the game.
Forward Caitlin Rorman shared game-high scoring honors with Claire Cutler by netting 13 points to pace Blue Earth Area’s balanced offensive effort.
Post player Lindsey Norman tallied 10 points for the Bucs, forward Sofie Blair scored eight points, while guard Reegan Howard and Hannah Johnson supplied six points apiece.
Blue Earth Area (3-1) plays host to Martin County West on Tuesday night, while Fairmont (2-2) travels to Belle Plaine on Tuesday night.
Bryn Miller produced 11 points to pace Fairmont to a 30-26 B-squad triumph over Blue Earth Area on Thursday.
Savanah Baker tallied seven points, while Jen Moeller added six points for the Cardinals.

Fairmont 64, Blue Earth Area 52 — The Cardinals outlasted the Bucs by 12 points in Game 2 of a Big South Conference doubleheader Thursday night in Blue Earth.
Brady Allen netted 21 points and pocketed three steals for the Cardinals, while teammate Derek Missling produced a double-double effort of 15 points and 12 rebounds to complement three blocks.
Sam Schwieger totaled 10 points and six rebounds for the Cardinals, Wyatt Quiring ended the night with six points and four steals, while Dustin Schultz dished out six assists.
The Cardinals made 26 of 57 shots from 2-point range, went 1-for-17 from 3-point distance and netted 11 of 22 free throws.
Grant Strukel led the Bucs with a co-game-high 21 points, while Jacob Vaske and Austin Thielfoldt both totaled nine points.

Nicollet 60, Martin County West 55 — The Raiders overcame a 32-30 halftime deficit in Valley Conference action to rally for a five-point victory over the Mavericks on Thursday night in Trimont.
Cole Owens notched 18 points along with 10 rebounds to collect a double-double performance for the Mavericks.
Logan Ebeling netted 15 points with six rebounds and Dawson Weber scored eight points for Martin County West.
Raiders hoopster Ean Thomsen generated a game-high 19 points and teammate Riley Hulke finished with 18 points.
