Minnehaha United ices Fairmont Area hockey

MINNEAPOLIS — JennaRae Bateman and Hannah Schommer each collected hat tricks to power Minnehaha United to an 11-0 nonconference hockey victory over the Fairmont Area Cardinals on Saturday.

Sanna Evans converted Maddie Duca’s assist into the game’s initial goal only 2:03 into the opening period.

Bateman netted her first goal of the contest 4:59 into the first frame before Lily Mullinix doled out the first of her two assists to Cara Sajevic only 38 seconds later to extend Minnehaha’s margin to 3-0.

Luci Selander cashed in a Lucy Lyngen pass for United’s fourth of five first-period goals before Duca added an unassisted net-finding shot 14:54 into the segment.

Schommer converted a double-assist from Evans and Delaney Malone into the only goal of the middle frame to widen the gap to 6-0.

Bateman knocked home a power-play goal off a pass from Mullinix during the opening 1:19 to trigger United’s five-goal third period.

Malone cashed in the first of two Emma Bettencourt assists only 1:22 later before Schommer hammered home back-to-back goals off respective helpers from Molly Molloy and Emily Mortenson.

Bateman capped her hat trick via a short-handed goal off an assist from Bettencourt at the 14:37 mark to close out the double-digit margin of victory.

Minnehaha netminder Lauren Schommer made five saves to pocket the shutout. Fairmont Area goaltender Emily O’Connor turned away 33 of United’s 44 shots on goal.

Fairmont Area (0-6) travels to Worthington on Tuesday night.
