Fairmont 12U 4th at tourney
MARSHALL — The Cavers Realty of Fairmont 12U girls hockey team went 2-2 to place fourth in the weekend tournament at Marshall.
Fairmont beat BW Blades, 3-1, on Friday and took a 3-2 win over Prairie Center/Little Falls on Saturday.
Hannah Goerndt scored and assisted on Abi Sundeen’s goal against BW Blades. Corene Moeller swiped in a score for Fairmont, which had 33 shots on goal. Karissa Newville had an assist.
Hadley Artz made 19 saves in the contest, racking up 104 saves on the weekend.
Bella Larson scored two goals against Prairie Center/Little Falls, both of which were via assists from Moeller. Goerndt used Jozie Hoefker’s assist to score the final goal.
Fairmont finished with 20 shots on goal.
Fairmont then lost to Marshall, 4-0, on Saturday and Litchfield Dassel Cokato, 5-0, on Sunday. The team had seven shots on goal in the two games.
Bantams fly over Falcons
FAIRMONT — The Carlson Dental of Fairmont Bantam team posted a 5-1 victory over the Faribault Falcons on Saturday at Martin County Arena.
Dominic Hegdal recorded a hat trick and an assist in the win. Lucas Flohrs and Alexander Moeller both chipped in a goal. Trenton Vlieger, Thomas Claeys and Carson Johnson all doled out an assist.
Murphy wins Player of Week
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota junior forward Jordan Murphy has repeated as Big Ten Player of the Week, announced on Monday. It’s the third time Murphy has won the honor in his career.
Murphy recorded double-doubles in each of the Gophers’ three wins last week. He scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while adding three blocks at Providence in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.
Two days later Murphy scored 18 points and posted 11 rebounds in Minnesota’s 107-81 win over Niagara.
On Sunday night, Murphy had 23 points and 11 rebounds as Minnesota cruised past Western Carolina.
